Turn a good AI music passage into a usable game loop

The end of a file is rarely the best place for a loop to end. I'd look for a passage that can return naturally to its beginning, then build the seam around the music. The waveform alone won't tell you where that is.

Hide the seam: End of phrase → Overlap → Start of phrase. Crossfade the tail, then listen across several repeats.

Find a phrase that can repeat

Import the track into an audio editor and listen for a stable section with a clear pulse. Mark a possible beginning and ending. Count along if you can; a phrase that feels complete gives the return somewhere sensible to land.

Avoid a section whose whole purpose is to build toward a climax that you remove. Repeating that buildup can leave the player waiting for a payoff that never arrives.

I would audition several short regions before doing detailed cleanup. Choosing a better passage often saves more work than trying to repair an awkward one.

Keep the sound after the last note

A note may stop being played while its reverb continues. Cutting that tail at the loop boundary can sound like the room suddenly disappeared. Preserve a copy of the tail and try overlapping it with the beginning of the region.

A short crossfade can soften the join, but listen for doubled attacks or a dip in volume. The right overlap depends on the sound. Sustained texture gives you more freedom than a strong drum hit.

Use a lossless working file while editing. Keep the original and label the loop boundaries so you can revise the edit without rebuilding it from memory.

Test the loop where it will play

Repeat the edited region several times in your editor, then test the exported asset in the game. Export settings and playback behavior can reveal gaps that weren't present in the editing timeline.

Listen while playing, not only while concentrating on the seam. A repeated melodic gesture may become distracting even when the technical join is clean.

I'd also test pause, resume and restart. Decide whether a new round restarts the track or lets it continue. That choice affects the player's experience as much as the loop point does, especially in a game with frequent short attempts.
